For Karen the artist, discovering the Flint Hills of Kansas was truly a revelation that led to much artistic discovery. Even if not painting 'en plein air' she finds that many of her works, whether abstract or figural, are inspired by nature. Karen is interested in much of the science of a place whether geological or historical and collects many fossils and bones, and flora when she is exploring what used to be the ancient ocean that is now Kansas. She then aims to incorporate these found objects into her artworks.
