DOWNTOWN TUESDAY PAINTERS

Jim Bennett
"Sitting Bull"
Wood
44 x 33 x 0.75 inches

The Downtown Tuesday Painters group evolved from a series of basic art classes that were taught at the Douglas County Senior Services in 1974 but did not refer to themselves by name until about 15 years ago. The group has always been active and meets every Tuesday at Douglas County Senior Service's Lawrence Senior Center from 9am to 1pm. The group is open to all and most members are seniors but, as long as there is room, no one is turned away from joining. There are no dues, and members provide and share their own art materials.

Mediums used by the Downtown Tuesday Painters include watercolor, oils and colored pencil, as well as mixed media, wood and cast clay. The group exhibits their artwork locally every year at Babcock Place, the Lawrence Public Library during October and, of course, during the Lawrence ArtWalk in the Lawrence Senior Center's main lobby.

The group's members exhibiting their work during Lawrence ArtWalk 2012 are Jim Bennett, Ardis Comfort, Pat Drury, Bill Dymacek, Bill Grubbs, Wilma Lutz, Ann Martin, Joan Martin, Charlotte Neese, C.A. Peters, Joanna Ward, Dar Williams and Bill Young.
