Marilyn
is a self-described "recovering attorney." Her childhood dream was to
be an artist, specifically a portrait painter, but she got sidetracked shortly
after high school and never enrolled in a single art class in college. After
practicing law for 13-plus years, she decided to take a few art classes through
the Lawrence Arts Center and had the good fortune to enroll in an open studio
class taught by Louis Copt.
Studying oil painting under Louis Copt over several years has taught her
to approach painting with discipline and to not shy away from exploring a
wide-ranging and bold color palette. Also, her interest in painting subject
matter has changed and is continuing to change rapidly. The Cadmium-lit Nights series
–which includes “Teller’s”, above - is her attempt to explore painting local
watering holes and bistros from a unique vantage point.
