“Lotus Flowers”
Acrylic and mixed media on canvas
16 x 12 inches
2006
$200 |
The
theme which underlies all of Anita’s work is a search
for peacefulness and harmony through the study of
objects in nature including birds, sea shells, flowers
and small creatures. The objects in her paintings are
combined in ways that might be considered surreal,
often overlapping with unexpected elements such as
depictions of man-made monuments. She paints on canvas
or board with acrylics and her paintings often include
mixed-media elements, including bits of fabrics and
Japanese decorative papers or pieces of sheet music.
Anita is a native of California but has lived in
Kansas for 35 years and earned an MFA in Printmaking
at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. She
recently retired from 19 years of teaching art in
public schools. Anita’s work has been shown in
one-person and group shows as well as many juried
exhibitions - most recently in the 37th Annual Smoky
Hill Art Exhibit in Hays and in the Juried Art
Exhibition of KS/MO Women Artists at the Carter Center
in Kansas City, MO. |
