Nanette
grew up in St. Joseph, MO, where she graduated from
Missouri Western State College, and then moved to Tucson, AZ
and earned her Masters Degree in Organic Chemistry.
She subsequently lived in Santa Barbara and San Diego,
CA; Albany, NY; and moved to Lawrence in 1991 where
her husband,Teruna, is a Professor in Pharmaceutical
Chemistry at the University of Kansas. Nanette became
interested in painting when she attended an art
workshop with her children Rebecca and Matthew, and
has been taking classes ever since from a variety of
local artists. She recently participated in the
Lawrence Art Guild’s 2006 Art in the Park art fair.
Nanette enjoys cheerful paintings so she tends to use
a lot of bright colors, sometimes in an abstract or
exaggerated manner. She likes to put complementary
colors next to each other but usually limits her
palette to one of each primary color. She also
experiments with many different watercolor techniques
but generally uses transparent watercolors, and enjoys
using granulated pigments and rough watercolor paper.
