Welcome
to Insect Art! Kathryn goes above and beyond the typical insect display to make
pieces of wall art that are sure to be conversation starters. Kathryn
has always enjoyed collecting and displaying insects but was disappointed with
the traditional display methods. It was easy to find a butterfly mounted on
white paper but she wanted something more, something unique that would be suitable
for displaying elsewhere than in a museum. In other words, she wanted to create
an insect display that was also a piece of art.
Insect
Art is made from real insects that come from around the world. Kathryn receives
them dried out and folded up but re-hydrates them to make them flexible. She
then spreads them out on a board with sewing pins and plates of glass, and
arranges them in lifelike poses to add a natural feel to each piece. Lastly,
Kathryn glues the insects onto an art background in a shadowbox frame. The
whole process takes several days and each work of art is unique. |
