Malissa moved to Lawrence from Houston in late
2005. Working primarily in acrylic and encaustic, a medium composed of beeswax,
resin, and pure pigments, Malissa mixes her own encaustic paints, uses a
variety of tools to manipulate the wax, and often uses collage and mixed media
in her work. With all of her artistic family members practicing traditional
representational styles such as portraiture and still life, it took her a long
time to accept that her passion for texture, metals, and abstract expression
was also art. Malissa will demonstrate encaustic paint making and painting
during Lawrence ArtWalk 2007. |
