Ironworks was born in 1995 when Kelvin turned a part-time hobby into a
full-time labor of love. As a boy growing up on a farm in Kansas, he learned
many skills including welding and his childhood passion of inventing, designing
and creating metal objects never left him. After college, 20 years and several
unsatisfying careers, he finally realized he needed to get back to what he
really enjoyed doing, which was working with his hands. In 1993 he created
homemade welded Christmas gifts and his iron angels were so well received that
he decided to continue making them as a hobby. However, because they became so
popular, it was not long before he had to make the decision to quit his day job
to become a full-time metal artist. The angels must have been smiling.
Nowadays, Kelvin spends his days, and many of his nights, in his studio
designing, cutting, grinding, welding and pounding his creations into reality.
His work is made from a variety of recycled metals, including carbon steel and
stainless steel. |
