Jason
was born and raised in Lawrence, Kansas. He lived for
a while in San Francisco where he developed a love for
cycling and worked as a bike messenger. He originally
aspired to be a writer but a serious bicycle accident,
in which he suffered a brain injury, forced him to
rethink his future and find another outlet for
creative self-expression. He returned to Lawrence in
2000 to be near friends and family, and to focus his
energies on his rehabilitation and painting. Since
returning, his paintings have been featured at many
local businesses and are included in many private
collections, both here and in California.
Jason’s approach is basically intuitive and he never
starts a painting with a clear mental image of what he
wants. He lets the process take him where it will,
working and reworking the surface until it is done.
Sometimes this happens quickly but may take several
months, resulting in a thick and heavily textured
surface. He often incorporates found objects into his
work, sometimes visible on the surface but often
buried beneath many layers. |
