MARTY OLSON
RECIPIENT OF THE
LAWRENCE ARTWALK 2008
FEATURED ARTIST AWARD
|
Our Featured Artist this year is
Lawrence, Ks artist Marty Olson, who was selected for this
award by fellow Lawrence ArtWalk 2008 artists. His
mixed-media work, 'History Scrutinized' (above) appears on ArtWalk
promotional materials including the
invitational postcard, poster and printed guide map.
A reception is to be held in his honor on Friday,
October 24, 7-9pm, at which he will be signing copies
of the ArtWalk poster featuring his work. See
home page for more
details.
Marty is primarily a painter but also works in the
mediums of printmaking and drawing. His paintings are a
constant exploration into the world of gesture, color and archaeology of the
surface, and currently are the direct result of spending two years making
monotypes.
Marty has been drawing since he was old enough to hold a pencil and
knew then that he wanted to be an artist. He attended Northwest Missouri
University from 1970-1972 on an art scholarship and has since pursued his
passion for art with shows in Pasadena, CA; Taos, NM; Washington, DC; Tulsa,
OK; Durham, NC; as well as numerous exhibits in Lawrence.
Marty has been a
frequent donor to local benefits for the Lawrence Arts Center, Lawrence Humane
Society, and Douglas County AIDS Project (featured artist, 2007). His artwork
has also appeared on publicity materials for theatrical works and was chosen
for the cover of a recently published play, ‘Sonnets for an Old Century,’ by
Jose Rivera (screenplay writer for ‘The Motorcycle Diaries’).
More of Marty's work may be seen
on his ArtWalk 2008 artist's page.
Congratulations, Marty! |
