The Kaw
Valley Fiber Guild was first organized in 1971 as a group for amateur and
professional weavers, spinners and fiber artists to share techniques and learn
from each other. After a few name changes the guild continues today as a
resource and a chance for fiber artists to get together and still share. The
guild meetings are usually held at 7:00pm on the second Tuesday of each month
at the Lawrence Public Library. The meetings usually include a short business
meeting followed by a program or a mini-workshop, which focuses on some aspect
of the fiber arts. Plus, each month a member of the guild hosts a fiber day at
their home and everyone enjoys food, fiber and FUN! We make our art from anything
that can be classified as a fiber material. We make wearables, wall hangings,
accessories, linens, silk paintings, felted and knitted items and much more.
The group's members exhibiting their work during Lawrence ArtWalk 2010 include Carol
Bloom, Sherry Boswell, Diane Buck, Dorothea Christofferson, Maryam Hjersted,
Susan Hoisington, Cindy Hornberger, Jean Jack, Leslie Mclaughlin, Lynn
Mittelstadt, Diana Schoneweis and Regina Shaver. |
