Cathy's artwork has been greatly influenced by sea forms that she has seen while scuba diving
in Belize, Thailand and the Caribbean, and by the canyon lands of northern Arizona. She is
enamored by the astounding variety of colors, shapes and textures in these places. Ceramics,
for Cathy, is the perfect medium and she loves to stretch and push the clay when it is soft and
barely able to hold its form. Most of her pieces are made from slabs that are rolled and cut, and
are often built up with coils. They are then airbrushed with an underglaze and fired in an electric
kiln.
Cathy and long-time friend and fellow artist Diana Dunkley are exhibiting work together in this
year's ArtWalk. After showing together regionally and internationally for over two decades,
they will be showing works that explore brand-new directions as well as a selection of popular
pieces. |
