Jerry's first memory of his interest in photography is from the age of 10 during a summer family
vacation in his home state of Minnesota. He had been given a simple Kodak camera with no
adjustments, with which he snapped a shot of a chipmunk. He had high hopes for that photo but
was very disappointed when the prints came back; the chipmunk was such a small part of the
photo and not what he remembered in his mind's eye.
About 10 years later he bought an SLR camera and learned the skills of the darkroom. He is now
on his second DSLR camera and has been processing and printing his own photos in daylight for
several years. Jerry still photographs critters, large and small, as well as plant life, water, rocks,
and all aspects of the natural world, including people. He gets close to the smaller things if he
can, and, if not, uses a longer lens. He says, "Be curious and prepared for the unexpected. The
more you use your camera, the sooner you will become proficient in its use."
