Barbara Solberg
"The Old One"
Mixed-media collage on paper
21 x 15 inches
2013
$975 |
Moon myths and dreams are the inspirations for Barbara's current work. Always observing the
natural landscape, she incorporates moon imagery in her pastel paintings and mixed-media
collages. These collages contain natural objects collected locally or from distant places; or that
were given to her by friends who (rightfully) thought she might like a gift of a smooth stone, shell
fragment, odd-shaped bone or twig.
Barbara is an award-winning artist, and has lived and worked in Lawrence since moving from
Salina, Kansas in 1994. Currently, she creates art and teaches classes in her home studio, which
is situated on a bluff overlooking the Kansas River close to Lecompton. She also teaches drawing
and pastel classes at The Osher Institute (Continuing Education, University of Kansas) and
statewide at local art centers. Playing with paint and other materials since the age of five, she
ultimately earned a BFA degree in painting from KU.
