Jason was born and raised in Lawrence, Kansas. He originally aspired to be a writer but a serious
bicycle accident, in which he suffered a brain injury, forced him to rethink his future and find
another outlet for his creative self-expression. He returned to Lawrence in 2000 to be near
friends and family, and to focus his energies on his rehabilitation and painting.
Since returning, Jason's paintings have been featured at many local businesses and are included in
numerous private collections. His works were featured in the Lawrence Magazine, Fall 2007, and
in the Lawrence Journal-World newspaper, May 15, 2010.
Many of his pieces incorporate found objects and natural materials, which are both visible on the
surface and buried beneath many layers. Working slowly and without a set plan, the resulting
works are often thick and heavily textured. Jason describes his approach as "basically intuitive,"
relying heavily on the painting process itself for inspiration and discovery.
